This page covers how to invite people to your Dosu organization, change what they can do, and remove them, all from Settings, Organization, Members. It also explains the difference between the Member, Admin, and Owner roles.

What it is#

An organization is the top-level account that holds your Libraries, Agents, Sources, and settings. The Members page is where you control who belongs to that organization and what each person is allowed to do.

A few things worth knowing up front:

  • A seat is any member of your organization, across all roles. Owner, Admin, and Member all count toward your seat total.
  • You only need seats for people who sign in to the Dosu dashboard to manage Agents, run Reviews, configure settings, or maintain Documents. People who interact with Dosu only on GitHub or Slack do not need a Dosu account and do not consume a seat.
  • Membership is per organization. Removing someone from one organization does not affect any other organization they belong to.

How to invite and manage members#

Open Settings, Organization, Members. You need the Admin or Owner role to invite, change roles, or remove people.

Invite a member#

  1. Go to Settings, Organization, Members.
  2. Select Invite member.
  3. Enter the person's email address.
  4. Choose a role, either Admin or Member.
  5. Send the invitation.

The invite appears under your pending invitations until the person accepts it. When they sign in and accept, they join with the role you selected.

Change a member's role#

On a member's row, open the actions menu (the icon at the end of the row) and pick a different role. The change takes effect right away. You cannot change your own role, and the Owner role cannot be assigned from this menu (see Roles and permissions below).

Remove a member#

On a member's row, open the actions menu, select remove, then confirm. To remove yourself, use the same menu to leave the organization. Owners cannot be removed this way.

Roles and permissions#

Dosu has three roles.

  • Owner. Full control over the organization, including the ability to delete it. Each organization has exactly one Owner. The Owner role cannot be assigned from the Members page. To transfer ownership, contact the Dosu team.
  • Admin. Can manage members and invitations, change organization settings, manage Agents, and view billing.
  • Member. Can view Agents but cannot create or modify them.

A quick way to think about it: Members work inside the product, Admins also run the organization, and the single Owner additionally owns the account itself.

Domain-based auto-join (Enterprise)#

Enterprise accounts can turn on domain-based autojoin so people do not have to be invited one at a time. When autojoin is on, and someone signs up with an email domain that matches your configured domains, Dosu automatically adds them to your organization. They join as a Member by default, or with the role from a matching pending invitation if one exists.

Autojoin is independent from single sign-on. You can run either one on its own, both together, or neither. See Single sign-on for the related SSO setup.

Notes#

  • Roles control access to the Dosu dashboard. Access to the knowledge inside a connected Source follows that Source. For example, once a Slack workspace is connected, every member of the organization can query its connected channels. See Roles and RBAC for how this works across Sources.
  • Seats and plan limits are handled separately. To review or change your plan, see Billing or the pricing page.
  • Some capabilities, such as Enterprise autojoin and SSO, depend on your plan. If an option is not visible, contact the Dosu team.
